The English Football Association are set to begin serious consideration of naming rights for Wembley Stadium, a move which could see the stadium branded by a corporate sponsor.

It is said that the FA’s plans will include strict guidelines for the naming of the stadium, to ensure a suitable name is chosen and does not detract from Wembley’s status, atmosphere, or standing with fans. The FA are also open to the possibility of naming part of the stadium, such as one of the stands, and retaining the overall name of Wembley Stadium as is.

Wembley Stadium cost £800 million to build and currently places great strain on the FA’s resources for necessities like maintenance and upkeep, in addition to day-to-day and event running.
