Fans of the South African game will be all too familiar with the constant, blaring din of the vuvuzela trumpet. The plastic instrument is responsible for such a deafening noise that Japanese players and others have spoken out against the sound, claiming it’s impossible to communicate with their team members.
Now the Japan Football Association president Motoaki Inukai has taken the anti-vuvuzela gauntlet and will address a potential ban on the instrument with FIFA head Sepp Blatter. FIFA have previously rejected requests to see the noise removed from stadiums, but that doesn’t discourage Inukai. He is determined to enact change before this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, and has appealed the suggested ban with South African officials.
