Recent acquisition Joe Cole has apologized for missing his penalty kick in Liverpool’s home leg of Europa League qualifying matches against Trabzonspor, a match which Liverpool won by a narrow 1-0.

Cole offered no particular explanation for the miss, but said, “It was a poor penalty. I haven’t taken one for about 15 years and I might wait another 15 before I take the next one.”

Ryan Babel’s goal secured Liverpool the win, and Cole was at least consoled by the fact that Liverpool didn’t give up any goals. “We were far from vintage but we got the job done and it’s always good not to concede at home,” he added.
