Man City to swoop for Barca star

Man City have made the first move to offer Thierry Henry a sensational return to the Premier League, according to News Of The World.

Chief executive Garry Cook has asked super-agent Pini Zahavi to do a deal to bring the Barcelona striker to Eastlands in time for next season.

The pair have been in contact this week and the City supremo needs a mega-deal to improve his standing in the eyes of the club’s Arab owners.

The Abu Dhabi group, who bought City last August, were unimpressed at not landing Brazil superstar Kaka despite bidding over £100million.

Henry, 31, has been in brilliant from for Barca after injury disrupted his first season at the Nou Camp. And he is thought to be keen on returning to England.

City want a massive name in their squad to attract other top players as they attempt to become a world superpower. And they know they can capture Henry without paying anything like the astronomical fee talked about for Kaka.

The move will become increasingly likely if Barca fulfil the Frenchman’s lifelong ambition of winning the Champions League. The Spanish club have other players who would interest City. Yaya Toure has been spoken about and they also fancy striker Samuel Eto’o.

The Eastlands club are set to bring in as many as six top names this summer.

If this happens, though I won’t hold my breath, look for a few of Man city’s young but promising strikers to go out on loan for next season. Sturridge, Evans, Caicedo and maybe Jo (again) have all imporved in the last season and they will all only get better. Send them out on loan and let them get first team starting 11 experience in England and look to them to copme back int he fold the following season. Evan’s game stepped up a few notches due to his loan experience. Then on the opposite end of the spectrum, look for a few older strikers to be let go (Vassell for certain and Benjani if he has loss even more pace and skill due to his injuries).
