Amidst rumor and speculation about his future in MLS, Everton manager David Moyes has publicly stated that Landon Donovan is unlikely to return to Everton. Donovan had a loan stint at Everton during the MLS season break, and in the opinions of many pundits and fans, performed well.

The reason? Donovan’s price tag has risen, no doubt sharply after his stellar performance in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Moyes explained, “We’d love to have Landon [back] but he looks too expensive for us. We don’t have the finances. The price that Major League Soccer wants for him is very big and it’s an additional problem because of his age.”

Donovan currently plays for the LA Galaxy.
