Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan could be set for a return to the Premier League in the summer, according to his agent.
The Uruguayan international became famous for his profligacy in front of goal during his two-and-a-half-year stint at Old Trafford, scoring just 10 league goals in 63 appearances.
But he has since re-established himself as one of Europe’s most lethal marksmen in Europe, netting more than 50 La Liga goals for Villarreal, before switching to Atletico Madrid, where he has bagged 34 in 57 league outings for the Spanish capital outfit.
And that potency has sparked rumours linking the 29-year-old with a return to England, with Manchester City, Tottenham and Sunderland all believed to be keen on securing his services.
“I have received calls from big European clubs requesting information about the situation, but I am not authorised to give their names,” Forlan’s agent, Daniel Bolotnikoff, told skysports.com.
“My answer is always the same. Atletico Madrid will decide on this subject.
“Diego is enjoying a great season in front of goal and is happy in Madrid, but at the end of the season we will be in a better position to evaluate the situation.
“Forlan could have a big role in England.”
