SPL giants Rangers are in the running for a fan takeover, with the Rangers Support Trust (RST) guiding the movement to the next stage by meeting with representatives from other member-run clubs in Europe. The meetings will take place during the GersPride conference this coming weekend.
The RST will meet with reps from Hamburg and Espanyol to discuss the models involved in fan-owned clubs, and shed more light on the feasibility of such a takeover at Ibrox. With debts of approximately £30million, Rangers have fallen from grace with fans who believe the current regime lacks accountability for their financial situation. And the majority shareholder Sir David Murray is looking to sell around 90% of his share in the club, opening an avenue to fans should they be able to decide upon a mode for running the club and raise sufficient funds.
